Sign-off on Texas Bruce and the Wranglers was, "Hasta la vista, vaqueros." Texas Bruce's horse was Trustee.Father was a Washington University-trained physician.Had four sons by long-time wife Jean: David, Christopher, Buckner and Scott.Received the Nellie Booth Memorial Award in recognition of his years of service to the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA).Traded in his boots and cowboy hat for a business suit, moving to a career in advertising. He also was active in many community groups, including the Red Cross, which he served as vice chairman.In 1946, he co-hosted a show called "TeleQuiz" with Dottie Bennett. He worked in radio after the quiz show job, until the offer to play Texas Bruce came along in 1950.Earned a bachelor's degree in drama from Washington University in 1941, then served as an officer in the Marines in World War II, stationed on Guadalcanal, Munda and other Pacific Islands.Gibbs hosted "The Wranglers Club," a local St. Louis kids show, which ran from 1950 to 1963, taking on the role of a cowboy with his horse "Trusty".
